Clover mite pest sense
Habits, lifecycle, needs, dislikes
Feed on clover and grass, swarm on sunny outer walls of buildings and get indoors. Invasions in spring and fall, die after entering building
If you feel able, you can gently clean the mites off the walls with a soapy sponge or rag. They do not bite. You can also vacuum mites using the crevice attachment or just spray them directly with soapy water.
If it becomes a problem that you can’t deal with using a mild soap, you can use an insect killing soap Conc II. Apply the soap to the foliage around the outer walls and foundation of the house. Ensure thorough coverage for maximum control. It is an organic pesticide with an active ingredient of potassium laureate. Make sure and read the label thoroughly before using it and follow the instructions completely. Do not use on any surface in the kitchen or places where you prepare food.
Cultural measures:
The mites hide in dry crevices around the foundation and in the surrounding grass and clover. Making sure that there is no clover or grass growing up against or right next to walls, and that cracks are filled to reduce overwintering locations. Some sources associate excess nitrogen fertilizer attracts these pests.
Physical tactics to repel:
Spraying mild soap and water
